Tomasz Linowski – ICTQT researcher – awarded prestigious START scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science

We are pleased to announce that Tomasz Linowski, a researcher at the International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies (ICTQT), University of Gdańsk, has been awarded the prestigious START scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science.

The START programme is one of the most recognized distinctions for young researchers in Poland. It is awarded annually to outstanding early-career scientists for the quality, originality, and significance of their scientific achievements.

Tomasz Linowski is a Post Doc in Quantum Open Systems in Relation to Quantum Optics Group, led by Łukasz Rudnicki at ICTQT.

His research focuses on several areas of theoretical physics, including:

  • quantum optics,
  • quantum open systems,
  • mesoscopic formalisms,
  • and quantum metrology.

In recent years, a significant part of his work has been devoted to applied physics problems related to optical superresolution – the ability to overcome the classical limits of imaging resolution. In particular, he has investigated how quantum-optimal superresolution methods perform under realistic noisy conditions, with special attention to applications in exoplanet detection.

At the same time, his research remains strongly connected to fundamental questions of quantum theory. His recent work explores topics such as the quantum-to-classical transition and the existence of different, inequivalent descriptions of the same quantum phenomena.

The award highlights both the growing impact of ICTQT researchers and the importance of fundamental theoretical research for the future development of quantum technologies.

Huge congratulations Tomek!
