Markus Grassl to deliver plenary lecture on Algebraic Quantum Codes at ITW 2023
Markus Grassl, a Senior Scientist with the International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies at the University of Gdańsk, will deliver a plenary talk at the IEEE Information Theory Workshop (ITW) in Saint-Malo, France. Grassl’s talk, titled “Various Facets of Algebraic Quantum Codes,” will discuss the connections between quantum error-correcting codes and algebraic coding theory.
ITW is organized by the IEEE Information Theory Society, which is dedicated to the advancement of the mathematical underpinnings of information technology for the benefit of humanity. The event seeks original, unpublished contributions in all areas of information theory, including but not limited to machine learning, coding theory, cryptography, and 6G communications.
Grassl’s talk will highlight some direct and indirect construction methods for a subclass of quantum error-correcting codes using algebraic coding theory. He will also illustrate how algebraic coding theory can be used to obtain quantum error-correcting codes, leading to new questions in classical coding theory.
Markus Grassl is a Senior Member of the IEEE Information Theory Society and has held positions at various institutions around the world. His research interests include algebraic methods in quantum information science, focusing on constructions for various types of quantum error-correcting codes. He is also a contributor to the algorithms for coding theory in the computer algebra system Magma and maintains online tables of good block quantum error-correcting codes and good linear block codes.
ITW 2023 will take place from April 23 to 28 at the Palace of Grand Large, facing the large Sillon beach in Saint-Malo, France. The event is an excellent opportunity for researchers, academics, and professionals to exchange ideas, learn about the latest advances in information theory, and network with peers in the field.
