Image classification through machine learning: from the classical approach to recent quantum investigations
Speaker: Giuseppe D’Ambruoso (University of Bari Aldo Moro)
Abstract
This seminar will be split into two main sections. First, I’ll provide a concise introduction to core machine learning concepts before diving into how neural networks are typically used for image classification. We’ll specifically explore convolutional neural networks: their architecture, training processes, and current limitations. In the second part, I will talk about how quantum computers’ potential is being explored in the field of image classification, with a focus on my recent results. This part will cover topics including variational quantum circuits, and hybrid quantum-classical neural networks.
