The first Quantum Speedup was organised in 2019, shortly after the establishment of the two International Research Agendas devoted to quantum technologies (the International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies at the University of Gdańsk, and the Centre for Optical Quantum Technologies at the University of Warsaw). The second Quantum Speedup took place in December 2020 in virtual form, and we embraced this opportunity to actively integrate with the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Gdańsk, and the TEAM-NET consortium formed by the Centre for Theoretical Physics in Warsaw, the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, and the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gliwice.

The Quantum Speedup workshop series is aimed at complementing other successful prestigious Polish venues of quantum scientific exchange, such as the KCIK-ICTQT Symposia hosted in May, the Ingarden Annual Sessions hosted in November, and the quantum information seminar series that each Polish institution in the network hosts locally.

The main defining feature of the Quantum Speedup is to provide everyone (from master students to professors) with the opportunity to speak and present their work. For this, the first Quantum Speedup embraced as a defining feature the concept of Speedtalks complemented with poster sessions: during the Speedtalk sessions, each scientist can describe their work in a 3 minute long and one slide presentation (see the 2022 Speedtalk session below), details of which could be later discussed face-to-face during a poster session. Nowadays we consider the Speedtalks+Poster combo an aspect of the Quantum Speedup that will be featured in every edition.

In addition to its defining feature of Speedtalks, the Quantum Speedup may also host additional session depending on the needs of the Polish quantum community at the time. In the first edition of the Quantum Speedup, these sessions were devoted to the new institutes and research groups to introduce themselves. In the second edition, the sessions were used for selected participants to present an invited contribution on some relevant work carried out in the recent year.

Quantum SpeedUp has already established itself as an event of unique character, integrating Quantum Information scientists from Poland. We hope Quantum Speedup 2022 repeats the success of its previous editions!

Quantum SpeedUp Scientific Committee decided to award three young scientists for the best posters:

🅠 Susane Calegari from Centrum Fizyki Teoretycznej Polskiej Akademii Nauk for poster presentation entitled “Fermion Sampling under realistic assumptions”,
🅠 Paweł Cieśliński from Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science at University of Gdansk for poster presentation entitled “Reliable Entanglement Verification with Finite Copies of a Quantum State”, and
🅠 Otavio Augusto Dantas Molitor from ICTQT – International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies for poster presentation entitled “Salient signatures of entanglement in the surrounding environment”.

Additionally, Paweł Mazurek from ICTQT won a public award for the best speedtalk: “The asymptotic emergence of the Second Law for a repeated charging process”.
