Markus Grassl, ICTQT researcher, secures Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network funding
Researcher from the International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies at the University of Gdańsk has secured funding under the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks (MSCA DN), part of the Horizon Europe programme (https://marie-sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/whats-new/news/msca-awards-eu61718-million-for-doctoral-programmes).
One of the awarded projects is QuBriC – “Bridging Quantum and Classical Error Correction for Scalable Fault-tolerant Quantum Computing”, led on behalf of the University of Gdańsk by Marcus Grassl from ICTQT.
The MSCA Doctoral Networks programme supports international, interdisciplinary training of doctoral researchers, combining academic excellence with exposure to industry and innovation ecosystems. Its goal is to educate highly skilled researchers capable of translating scientific knowledge into real-world applications.
The QuBriC project brings together over 20 partners from 10 countries, including leading universities and industry collaborators. It focuses on one of the central challenges in quantum technologies: developing scalable and fault-tolerant quantum computing architectures.
Within the project, ICTQT will recruit and supervise a PhD student working on algebraic construction of channel-adapted quantum error-correcting codes, a key element for ensuring reliability of quantum computations in the presence of noise.
Quantum error correction is widely regarded as a cornerstone of practical quantum computing. By bridging methods from classical and quantum coding theory, the project aims to develop new strategies that will enable robust and scalable quantum devices.
The funding awarded to the University of Gdańsk for this project amounts to over €250,000, contributing to a total of more than €550,000 secured by the university within the MSCA Doctoral Networks call.
This achievement highlights ICTQT’s growing role in international collaborations at the forefront of quantum information science and quantum computing.
